Mission: To facilitate the
rapid, safe, and economical movement of people and goods in Maui County.
Department Charter:
- Responsible for the planning and implementation of all modes of transportation
in Maui County, including those in the air and those on water and land.
- Responsible for planning and developing an efficient program to facilitate
the rapid, safe, and economical movement of people and goods in Maui
County.
- Coordinate Maui County's transportation programs with other county
departments and with agencies of the state and federal government.
Department Goals:
- To mitigate the escalating traffic problem within Maui
County.
- To provide transportation options for goods and for
the residents of and visitors to Maui County.
- To improve public awareness of traffic abatement measures
and of transit opportunities.

Maui Public Bus Transit System: The County of Maui currently funds a public bus system that provides service in and between various Central, South, West, Haiku, and Upcountry Maui communities. The fare ranges from complimentary to $1.00 per boarding, depending on the route used. Monthly passes are also available. The routes operate seven days a week including all holidays. Please check the Public Bus Schedule for times and locations, or check the Maui Public Bus Transit System for the bus resources page.

Commuter Bus Schedule: Commencing July 1, 2007, the Maui Bus service will expand its bus service designed for early morning and evening commuters. This service will augment the existing Maui Bus service, not replace it. This service will consist of five commuter routes, all operated by Roberts Hawaii. The routes are called the Haiku-Wailea Commuter, Makawao-Kapalua Commuter, Wailuku-Kapalua Commuter, Kihei-Kapalua Commuter and the Wailuku-Kahului Connector. To ensure that there is adequate capacity on the vehicle, we are asking that riders call to reserve seats. There is no need to call for reservations on the regular (non-commuter) Maui Bus routes. |
Rural Shuttles: There are a number of rural shuttles available to the general public on Maui and Moloka’i, up to three times a week. They are funded by the County of Maui and are operated by MEO. All services are complimentary to the public. |

Airport Services : The airports within Maui County are operated by the state Department of Transportation.
Ground Transportation information is available to and from the Kahului Airport , which includes taxi services, shuttles, and car rentals.

Inter-island Ferry Service: There are two private inter-island ferry operators within Maui County . The Expeditions Ferry operates daily between Maui and Lana’i.
